Science Coalition Presents Awards to Congressmen in the COOL Lab --April 16, 2001
Rutgers President Francis L. Lawrence and Princeton University President Harold T. Shapiro presented US Reps. Rodney P. Frelinghuysen (R-NJ-11th) and Rush Holt (D-NJ-12th) with the Science Coalition's Champion of Science awards during ceremonies at Rutgers' Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences (IMCS) in New Brunswick.

The COOL Lab at IMCS, in which the ceremonies were held, employs satellite imaging and remote sensing devices for coastal ocean-surface observation and receives its major support from the Office of Naval Research. It is also funded by the National Ocean Partnership Program, NOAA's National Undersea Research Program, NSF and the state of New Jersey. It has become one of Rutgers' most prominent research facilities, integrating new technologies (like the Webb Slocum Glider pictured above), establishing collaborative efforts between industry, government agencies and research institutions, and by enlisting public support through their outreach activities such as this web site.

For additional coverage of the event see the Rutgers Focus and Rutgers Daily News.
