Rutgers Meteorological Tower at Great Bay Inlet

The Tower
Meteorological data is collected continuously at the Rutgers Marine Field Station. The meteorological tower shown below stands 230 feet tall and is situated 5 km from the nearest tree line.

The Instruments
The instrumentation, located at the 9 meter level of the tower, consists of wind, barometric pressure, relative humidity, air temperature and short wave radiation.

Our tower has been online and operational since 1996, measuring weather data continuously since then. Real-time updates to the world wide web are made every 15 minutes.

The Rutgers Ocean Data Access Network maintains a catalogue of archived meteorological data that you can access and plot yourself.
