The COOLroom
Home of the Underwater Weather for the New Jersey Coast

Not from New Jersey?

Not a problem! We're still here to help. Whether you're looking for Sea Surface Temperatures or all that other cool neato stuff, we'll get you started.

Sea Surface Temperatures

We at the COOL lab, at Rutgers University, currently make available all of our satellite imagery for the entire U.S. East Coast, including the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. Not only that, but you can find archived data for each of the regions we collect data for. Some of our online archives go back to 1993!

So, even though we do not collect coastal currents, wave measurements or meteorological data for areas other than the coast of New Jersey, you'll want to keep us in mind when it comes to SST.

Other Coastal Observatories

The COOLroom's primary focus is on monitoring the coastal waters off the coast of New Jersey. Throughout the world, other local coastal monitoring networks are in the planning and deployment stages. Some larger more regional networks are also in the works.

As partner universities and institutions across the Northeast coast of the United States set up their own COOLrooms, we hope to link to them.

The following sites are currently set to go in operation in the Northeastern United States.

More Coastal Observatories can be found at NOAA's Coastal Services Center.
